Objective
To educate and motivate the existing and potential leaders of Wilson and its surrounding areas through exposure to the issues concerning Wilson’s economic, government, and cultural environment. It is the Chamber’s hope, that through this exposure, DLW members will commit themselves and their time to the service and improvement of Wilson.

How The Program Works
Participants attend a two-day retreat and eight one-day sessions over a ten-month period.
Retreat
The program begins with a two-day retreat to Camp Seagull to jump-start team building activities. Get to learn more about yourself and the other team members as you work together to accomplish some very challenging tasks designed to demonstrate the dynamics of effective leadership. See pictures from past Class Retreats.
Sessions
Sessions are designed to stimulate interest and awareness of local issues by offering "hands-on" experience and a unique opportunity to interact with community leaders. Sessions are scheduled once a month (October through May) from 8:00am – 5:00pm during the week so time-off from work needs to be planned accordingly.
Additional Activities
Participants are required to attend four additional activities during the 11-month session. Activities range from "Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies" to "Riding with a Police Officer for a Shift". See a list of Additional Activities available to participants. Also, each year, members must select a group project that will benefit the community (more discussion on this in the Past Projects Section)
Graduation
The program concludes with a spring graduation where participants will present the results of the class project for the year. Attendance is mandatory for the Retreat and all Sessions. Participants must also complete a minimum of four Additional Activities during the course in order to graduate.
Why Get Involved
By joining DLW – you have decided to try and make a difference in the community in which you live. What you learn in this program acts as a stepping stone – directing you towards the areas that you are interested in improving.
What you also gain is friendship. Each member brings to DLW a unique set of characteristics that helps build your team. By the time you complete DLW you feel as though your team could change the world.
The benefits for employers are just as good as those for individuals. By sending a participant through DLW, employees have the opportunity to become a better corporate citizen. It shows their involvement within the community and a dedication towards making Wilson a better place for everyone. Each person that completes the DLW program walks away with a more positive attitude about his or her community and work. The contagious nature of a positive attitude can help lift an entire organization.
But the best part about the program is that it was designed to be fun. Members look forward to attending the monthly sessions. With the friendship and information gained, nobody walks away from this program disappointed.
