The city has a large supply of water (seven billion gallons capacity). The city provides electrical service (since 1893), natural gas, water, wastewater, recycling and garbage collection.
The city of Wilson owns and operates an all-fiber optic network that was completed in December 2008. It provides the fastest subscription based Internet speeds in North Carolina – up to 100 Mbit/s for homes, up to one Gbit/s to businesses. All citizens have access to high-speed Internet access (minimum of 10 Mbit/s symmetrical), telephone service and high-definition television. The city is marketing the service as Greenlight, Inc.
